Dealing with DDOS attacks in Curacao

On the odd occasion Curacao and its IP ranges are subjected to a broad spectrum DDOs attack which can saturate uplinks and bring routers to their knees.

When an attack happens, the Data Center does their best to mitigate the attack by filtering out traffic from various geographies which can cause our client servers to become unreachable.

To mitigate this, the DC can white list your inbound IP ranges which 'may' give you access to your servers (depending on the type of attack), or, you can use a VPN to access your servers from a geography that is currently unblocked. While we do not know exactly which geographies will be unblocked at any given time, in general we have found that USA/Miami is a good location to VPN to since it is one hop from Curacao.

When setting up your servers, websites and applications. We strongly suggest you use CloudFlare as a means to protect your site. CloudFlare has built in DDOS mitigation tools that you can use to filter out unwanted traffic.

We use the following VPN: https://ref.nordvpn.com/UJZpkVVZgrb
